S7 Professional archive turntable

The Professional Archive Turntable is able to transcribe almost any disc ever produced, with accurate and meaningful fidelity, in a precise and repeatable fashion. It has been crafted with longevity as a major goal and will thus perform reliably and consistently - representing a sound investment for any organisation or individual with a large disc archive. Incorporating a comprehensive motor drive control system, this professional working tool was specifically developed to deal with transcription requirements out with the remit of domestic record playing apparatus.

The motor, a powerful d.c. device, together with its' optical encoder, is housed in a substantial stainless steel enclosure held remotely from the turntable platform. Controlled by an intelligent servo feedback system, the motor enables precise and responsive motion control for exacting transcription work. The motor drive system delivers speeds of 10-120 rpm, driving the platter via two compliant belts. Motor speed is controlled by a digital electronic power supply and is independent of variations in load. Speeds may be set manually via thumb wheel selection, or via p.c. & RS232 serial port. Speed may be selected to one decimal place of rpm, both directions of rotation are available, and the various motor control parameters may be calibrated via the computer interface incorporated.

s7 professionalThe module, or turntable chassis, is a massive stainless steel disc into which the turntable bearing is built, and onto which the armboard is affixed. The motor unit and its drive system are excluded from the actual turntable platform.

The record spindle is detachable, permitting use of custom-built spindles for specific 'outsize' tasks or enabling precise positioning of any disc. Platter mass is greater than 11 kg. and distributed to maximise inertia. Surface plates - for fully supporting master lacquers, or archive discs of up to 20" in diameter - may also be supplied upon request, together with disc clamping record spindles and associated hardware.

The turntable is supplied with a base of 30mm thickness Italian slate which supports the turntable above and provides a rigid, high mass reference to 'earth'. The interchangeable armboard is laser-cut from a composite multi-layer material. Typically configured to mount one 12" S7 tonearm, a dual armboard for simultaneously mounting and operating 2 tonearms may also be supplied.

A short supporting stand, with levelling facility, is incorporated with the turntable. The motor drive system electronics is housed within this supporting stand and the motor unit itself is affixed to the base of the stand - holding it remotely from the actual turntable.

The turntable and tonearm parts are precision fabricated from various stainless steels and A1 aluminium stock. The general construction is of a modular nature, permitting simple addition or subtraction of modules and equipment as required. The electronic circuitry is all solid-state, complies with industry-standard eurocard fittings and is encased in a standard 19" rack mounting enclosure.

The turntable and tonearm units are constant-production, field-proven items. The motor, encoder and associated drive electronics are industrially proven components, able to work in demanding, harsh environments without difficulty. The Professional Archive Turntable has been designed as a professional working tool and thus to be reliable, accurate and straightforward - making few demands upon operatives - and, requiring only minimal maintenance, will provide a faultless performance over many years without problem.

Ayre Acoustics C-5xe Universal Disk Player Stereophile Extract: "It ought to be fairly obvious that I found the Ayre C-5xe more than satisfactory. I didn't expect it to disappoint, but I was unprepared for just how much it delighted me. I've heard a lot of impressive audio components over the years, but I've heard very few that afforded me greater musical pleasure or sent me on as many voyages of musical discovery through discs I thought I knew well." - Wes Phillips, July, 2005

Gryphon Diablo The ultimate reference integrated amplifier at £6100. The Gryphon sonic magic in a reasonable sized and georgeous case, you must hear this as it puts most pre power combo's to shame, pure music at its best.

Brinkmann LaGrange turntableThe Brinkmann LaGrange turntable is without a doubt the best source component I have ever had the chance to enjoy over an extended period of time. It represents a level of perfection and emotional connection to music that I have never heard before. - Danny Kaey extract from Positive Feedback

Teac Esoteric DV-50SThe Esoteric DV-50 is the most fun you can have with digital music playback short of the dCS trio reviewed by Michael Fremer in April 2003 (Vol.26 No.4). Given that the dCS gear costs about six times as much as the DV-50, the Esoteric is a screaming bargain, especially considering its hyper-advanced technology, bulletproof build, and exceptional sound. You can even play movies on it. - Stereophile Extract
