Mark Levinson No. 32 Reference Pre-Amplifier

For more than a decade, the most enthusiastic of our customers have luxuriated in Mark Levinson Reference products. A Reference Preamplifier, however, has been conspicuously absent.

The No32 is the first Mark Levinson Reference Preamplifier. Its innovative architecture and unusual feature-set make it the first preamp revolutionary enough to be labeled as a Reference product.

The Sound

Exhaustive listening tests were conducted over several years to select topologies, component parts and operating parameters for the No32 Reference Preamplifier. Venturing a description of the sound, we find ourselves reaching for superlatives. Our usual words and phrases seem inadequate to the task.

The No32 is spectacular in an unexpected way; it is a masterpiece of complexity and subtlety. It does not call attention to any single attribute, as some products do, only to disappoint over time. Just as a fine wine reveals more of itself throughout the night, or from one year to the next, so too does the No32.

Music-loving, careful listeners will find themselves discovering new and subtle meaning in familiar recordings. With time, recordings of great performances reveal more of themselves through the No32. The Reference Preamplifier sorts out complexity the way the proper light can reveal the artistry of a great painting. New and interesting aspects of the music reveal themselves with each playing of the recording, promising new secrets waiting to be discovered.

The No32 is for the serious music devotee, whose audio system is the means to an end, not the end itself. While it can sound breathtaking, it is designed for a sophisticated, refined and patient listener. Please take an evening to enjoy the new Reference. We are confident you will hear expressiveness in your favorite recordings that you have never heard before.

Reviews

"The No. 32 is transparent and fast without even the slightest edginess or unnatural artifacts. It’s analytical yet not a bit forward. It has an extremely liquid and open top-end that never felt the least bit constrained. The bass control was unequivocally the best that I have heard. The No. 32 allowed images to naturally breath giving life to absolutely every recording it saw. At times I felt such a sense of space between my room and myself that I felt closer to the musical event than to my actual surroundings. If you allow it to, the No. 32 will seduce you and musically transport you to a place that you have never before been. Truth be said, the No. 32 was so superior to every other preamp that I had heard, I couldn’t possibly resist. I bought it. The Mark Levinson No. 32 shares something in common with the likes of David Copperfield, Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis – all both produce magic". - Extract from AudioRevolution review by Bryan Southard

"Except in the best gear, greater apparent detail is often thrust at the unwary listener as thin, bright, over-etched sound---although I'm bound to note that, in the High End, this is becoming far less the case than ever. Compared to only a few years ago, outstanding performance is available for quite modest prices. (And kudos to the industry for the convergence of solid-state and tubed sound, if at varying levels of overall refinement.)

But when you shell out the long green for gear like the Mark Levinson No.32 Reference preamplifier, you get a product that delivers on that promise of More and Better like nothing I've heard to date---a true Reference product whose name matches its performance. Bravo."

Mark Levinson 326S Baby version of the Ref 32 Pre-amp at a reasonable cost of £6,995. Like most technologies the benefits of the research for the reference products trickle down into more affordable products like the 326s Pre-amp. You get alot of the quality of its bigger brother, providing a jump in the quality available at this price.

Ayre Acoustics C-5xe Universal Disk Player Stereophile Extract: "It ought to be fairly obvious that I found the Ayre C-5xe more than satisfactory. I didn't expect it to disappoint, but I was unprepared for just how much it delighted me. I've heard a lot of impressive audio components over the years, but I've heard very few that afforded me greater musical pleasure or sent me on as many voyages of musical discovery through discs I thought I knew well." - Wes Phillips, July, 2005

Gryphon Diablo The ultimate reference integrated amplifier at £6100. The Gryphon sonic magic in a reasonable sized and georgeous case, you must hear this as it puts most pre power combo's to shame, pure music at its best.

Brinkmann LaGrange turntableThe Brinkmann LaGrange turntable is without a doubt the best source component I have ever had the chance to enjoy over an extended period of time. It represents a level of perfection and emotional connection to music that I have never heard before. - Danny Kaey extract from Positive Feedback

Teac Esoteric DV-50SThe Esoteric DV-50 is the most fun you can have with digital music playback short of the dCS trio reviewed by Michael Fremer in April 2003 (Vol.26 No.4). Given that the dCS gear costs about six times as much as the DV-50, the Esoteric is a screaming bargain, especially considering its hyper-advanced technology, bulletproof build, and exceptional sound. You can even play movies on it. - Stereophile Extract

ProAc D100 The imposing new Response D100 takes on the mantle of flagship model from our legendary Response Four, which has delighted discerning audiophiles for the last twelve years.

The D100's produce stunning music, effortlessly. The enhanced sensitivity extracts the tiniest detail from any recording without brightness or exaggeration. Greater bandwidth creates a huge soundstage, drawing in the listener and creating a concert hall experience, where the loudspeakers seem to melt from the scene..
