History - Music Room

Opened in November 1979 The Music Room was not only Scotland’s first “high end” audio shop, but the first to sell Koetsu, Audio Research, Threshold and Mark Levinson. We were the first shop run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, and our ethical policies including the uk’s first demo room, the uk’s first two year 2warranties on all new equipment (6 months for used) and we wrote the founding charter for BADA.

When you have several shops the problems are in maintaining the high standards and quality of staff so as to provide the best customer service, knowledge and experience to the customer. On a large scale this is very difficult to achieve. We had problems with staffing as we found it difficult to find staff who were enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the products and we did not want someone who simply could sell product. We wanted long term happy customers that would form a relationship with us and return again in the future for advice and upgrades.

Opening Day:- The late Sir Alexander Gibson, then conductor of the Scottish National Orchestra

Have a look at the picture on the bottom left. How many products can you recognise? Most are still giving their owners musical pleasure.

Eventually the Audio Salon was born and was set up as a "by appointment only" shop so that we could spend more time providing a better customer experience and service. It also allowed us to substantially increase our quantity of high end equipment until we outgrew our premise at Crown Terrace in Hyndland.

The Park area of Glasgow is certainly as elegant, although from Victorian rather than Georgian times. With its prime location, high above Kelvingrove Park, many of the houses have terrific views across the Clyde. In turn, the curving terraces and the spires of Trinity College (designed by Charles Wilson) and Park Parish Church (designed by J T Rochead). Residential development in Park began in 1855 and the central Park Circus, flowing round an area of greenery, was one of Charles Wilson's finest achievements. It was built between 1857 and 1863 and most of the aristocratic houses have columned entrance halls and rich plasterwork.

The Area is situated on top of Woodlands Hill and overlooks the area occupied by the University, Kelvingrove Park, the Art Galleries and beyond to Yorkhill, Meadowside and Govan - which constitutes an impressive view. This area has been described as the 'finest piece of architectural planning of the Mid-Nineteenth century'.
