ATC is respected for its uncompromising approach to drive unit design and is probably best known in hi-fi circles for its range of active loudspeakers. The original aim was to develop a midrange drive unit capable of reproducing acoustic music more accurately than any other. Some 25 years on, the philosophy remains the same and each speaker is still hand-built.

The Three-Way loudspeaker. The introduction of a revised line-up of drive units improves all major performance parameters. Heavily braced inert cabinet, to eliminate resonance. High performance 25mm tweeter, features a silver voice coil and double magnet system giving a flatter frequency response and a higher cut-off frequency. ATC's hand-built Super Linear Soft Domed SM75-150S mid range driver, now features a new wave guide, giving an even better impulse response. Thus improving the phenomenal accuracy, transparency and dynamics of this remarkable mid range driver. Super Linear Magnet Systems developed by ATC reduces harmonic distortion, improving clarity and dynamics in the critical mid-band and dramatically improving depth and precision in the bass. The Active SCM 50 has a built in 350watt proprietary Tri channel amplifier, with Grounded Source® topology produces 50watts to HF driver, 100 watts to Mid driver and 200 watts to Bass. Featuring independent power supplies to each channel, and operating in ultra low distortion, Class A mode up to 2/3rds maximum output. Capable of up to 112dB continuous Power Output, with substantial transient headroom. The Active 50 is capable of meeting power requirements of current high bit rate Stereo, Multichannel music and film soundtracks.

The SCM50 ASL (active) and SCM50 SL (passive) are designed to perform at their best in the recording studio or at home with the finest quality hi-fi equipment. The monitors' ability to reproduce music and speech with phenomenal accuracy, transparency and dynamics lies mainly in the SM75-150S soft dome midrange driver. However, recent modifications that include an upgraded tweeter and enhanced port profile have brought about further improvements in all performance parameters. Each drive unit in the active model has its own dedicated and individually matched MOS-FET amplifier, while the 9" bass driver incorporates ATC's unique Super Linear Magnet technology. Our active crossover network consists of a wide band-width, electronically balanced input stage with high common mode rejection and very low distortion. Like the mid and bass drivers, all electronics are designed and manufactured in-house to create a no-compromise active system. In passive form, the SCM50 SL provides broad and symmetrical dispersion, excellent amplitude and phase characteristics throughout the frequency range.

Gryphon PoseidonThere are Loudspeakers and then there is the Gryphon Poseidon, In our opinion the best loudspeaker system in the world bar none.

I could say the Poseidon's are awesome and amazing, but more than that they are truly majestic and magical. So often the quality of a product is overstated by reviewers in order to make a magazine review seem more interesting. It would be most difficult to overstate the sonic abilities of the Poseidon.
